How to Compress Videos
on iPhone

Videos are the biggest storage drain on most iPhones — a single minute of 4K footage can be over 400 MB. Dupie lets you compress your videos directly on your iPhone, no computer required, saving gigabytes of storage while keeping them looking great.

Video format Original size (1 min) After compression Saving
4K 60fps ~800 MB ~160–240 MB ~70–80%
4K 30fps ~400 MB ~80–120 MB ~70–80%
1080p 60fps ~200 MB ~50–80 MB ~60–75%
1080p 30fps ~130 MB ~30–50 MB ~60–75%

Open Dupie, go to Videos, and select a video

Open Dupie on your iPhone and tap the Videos tab. Dupie scans your library and lists your videos sorted by file size, with the largest files at the top. Tap the video you want to compress — each video shows its current file size and estimated compressed size so you know what to expect.

2

Choose your compression settings

Select a quality level to control how much the file is compressed:

  • High — 6 Mbps target bitrate. Minimal quality loss, moderate file size reduction.
  • Medium — 3 Mbps target bitrate. A great balance for most videos.
  • Low — 1 Mbps target bitrate. Maximum compression, best for archiving or sharing.

You can also reduce the resolution (1080p, 720p, or 480p) and frame rate (60fps or 30fps) to shrink files further — or leave them at Original to preserve the source quality. If you want the compressed video to replace the original in your camera roll, enable Delete Original before compressing.

3

Preview before you compress

Not sure which settings to use? Tap Preview to generate a 5-second clip at your chosen settings. Dupie plays the original and compressed versions side by side so you can judge the quality difference before committing.

4

Compress and save

Tap Compress. Dupie re-encodes the video on your device and saves it to your camera roll. If you enabled Delete Original, the compressed version will take the original's place. When done, Dupie shows you how much storage you've freed up.

Frequently asked questions

Results depend on the original format and quality level you choose. Typical 4K videos from iPhone can be reduced by 70–80% at Medium quality — a 400 MB clip often compresses to around 80–120 MB. The size comparison table at the top of this page shows typical estimates by video format.
Some reduction in quality is unavoidable with compression. At the High and Medium settings, the difference is not visible during normal playback on a phone, tablet, or TV. The Low setting produces a more noticeable reduction and is best suited for videos you just want to archive or share at smaller sizes.
Yes. After compression Dupie gives you the choice to keep the original or replace it with the compressed version. For maximum storage savings, replace the original once you've reviewed the output and are happy with the quality.
Yes. Dupie supports all video formats captured by the iPhone camera, including 4K at 30 and 60fps, 1080p, and slow-motion (120fps, 240fps). 4K and slow-motion clips are typically the largest files in your library, so they benefit most from compression.
